Y screws feel like they have been welded on!

First time repairing a phone. Managed to undo the '*' and 'x' screws really easily, but the Y screws just will not budge! Only managed to get one of them out easily. The others ended up stripping them but got them out using the rubber band trick, and a lot of pressure. However, I need to remove the screws where the home button is, and I don't want to apply a lot of pressure as I fear breaking something. Maybe it's the screwdriver I'm using? I'm using one that was part of a cheap set from China. I noticed the screwdriver had a small tip on the end of it, so I filed it down, thinking this was the problem. But it didn't really help.

Has anybody else experienced this problem? Any suggestions for a good make of screwdriver ?

Also I would recommend using higher quality screwdrivers, as they are much more durable and the size is more accurate

Thanks. Im sure it's the right screwdriver. As I mentioned, I got one Y screw out easily without stripping it, but the others (which are the same type of screw) just aren't playing ball.

Anyone with experience fixing this model phone know what I'm talking about? If so, please suggest a suitable screwdriver (if that's the issue)

@yogz funny you ask for a suitable screwdriver because ifixit sell some of the highest quality screw drivers and if you need a good one get a ifixit tool kit that tge best

i picked up these on amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XD4HJ5D

they are great. they "bite" better than the original bits that came with the screwdriver kit i've been using (which the vendor/mfr says they discontinued so they couldn't send new tips if they wanted to). all three in this package have a great feel. going to dump the two original bits have have and go with these for sure.
still waiting for the dedicated triwing driver from amazon, but doubt i'll keep it since these bits work so well

been there, done that . i've never put so much pressure on the home button bracket that i'm worried about button damage (been close to that threshold though), but i have and some stripped screws where i had to destroy the home button bracket to recover the button.

the advice i've gotten is not to rely on trilobe bits from screwdriver kits (all the other bits work great, so i still recommend those kits) but to get a good quality trilobe screwdriver made with quality metals. i've been told (and now i'm a believer) that this particular specialty tool is worth the splurge.

i think the problem is (security functionality aside) is that the trilobe doesn't give enough points of grip to really get a good bite like you do with a phillips, pentalobe or even torx screw.

Thanks. I have reverted to bending the brackets backs so I could access the ribbon cables to unplug them!

Reading around, there does seem to be an issue with the tri-point screws used by iphone. Someone on this forum mentioned that most cheap screwdrivers (inc. those sold by ifixit) were no good for this problem. 'Wiha' (german brand) came recommended. I might give them a try if any available. Which brand did you splurge on?

@yogz try 2uul screwdrivers. All I use in the workshop. There isn’t an issue with tri wing screws in iPhones. The only problems are bad screwdrivers and the people using them to strip screw heads.

Excellent! Thank you for the suggestion. I will keep that brand in mind.
