Bluetooth range of speaker

My jbl flip essential is not giving more range have to keep the connected device beside speaker for connection. How to fix this??

Basically, what was the distance you could get before Vs what you can get now. Also have you tried a second unit to see if it’s the phone/tablet or PC Vs the speaker?
