Not good :-{

This is a common symptom when the discreet GPU chip has failed as the POST process fails to complete so the system resets and tries again getting into a loop.

Shut it down, this time on the restart quickly press the T key which will put your system into Target Disk Mode, which by passes the discreet GPU POST process. Did you get a FireWire or Thunderbolt Icon on the screen? If you did that proves it.

Hi Dan! Thanks for the help!

No icon at all after pressing T.

Also, there is no more loop. Just the chime, but nothing shows.

@serch4eu - Ouch! Then the logic board has issues. This will require a new board or getting your system to someone who can go deeper into diagnosing things within the logic board.

Dan! I was afraid of this. I think I will have to buy a new logic board. However, I’m not sure if it would be worth it. What’s your take on this? Lots of thanks! 🙏

Well, I had a 2011 system and due to the burning out the GPU with heavy photo editing I gave up on it for that task, I still wanted to use it for my IFixit efforts here so I put in a 2012 logic board into the system and it’s served me well. With 16GB & a 1TB SSD it’s held up well. I’m in the process of upgrading the SSD to a larger 2GB S my 1GB gave up. Trying to find my backup disk to restore things some how I’ve missed placed it! So I’m limping right now on my iPad. I currently use two 15” 2015 and 2013 MacPro for my photography work.

So the bottomline I would upgrade to a 2012 if you can get find a good deal. Even still Catalina is as high as you can run on It so it might offer you some time to see what Apple or other hardware maker does this coming year to them make the big jump. For a clue that’s my plan!

Don’t forget the score and accept the answer if you’re good - Thanks!
