Hi Brian,

I'm not an expert on golf carts by any means, but I have been working on cars for over 40 years so I do have a bit of experience under my belt.

I'm going to assume there's no braking system for that wheel that you can make use of, since I'm guessing you'd have used that if there was. So the problem is, how to keep the wheel from rotating while you're trying to loosen the lug nuts, right?

Normally on a car you can just have it sitting on the ground and the weight is sufficient to allow you to loosen the lug nuts. I gather that's not working for you because the wheel still rotates even when the tire is motionless. In order to remedy that, we need to bind the wheel to the tire like it should be. Is the tire deflated or flat? If so, the most direct solution would be to fix the flat, inflate it fully and set it on the ground with some wheel chocks then you should be good. You might have to overinflate the tire if it continues to spin, but at some point it really should lock in.

However, if that doesn't work or isn't feasible, you still have to keep that wheel from rotating. I've used a crowbar between two other lugs as a brace and wedged it against the ground or the vehicle while I wrenched on the lug nut. A helper would be useful if you can't find a position for the crowbar that holds. Otherwise, you might try deflating the tire so you can latch onto the rim with a pair of vice grips and use them as a brace.

Just my $0.02 worth; hope it helps. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the reply, I found more info after I sent the original question.

The tire is flat, and the previous owner put an 18.5 tire on an 18 wheel. I could not get it to seat. Prior to seeing your answer I wrapped a ratchet strap around the tire but it was about to pop the tire off the wheel.

Your answer of using a tire iron between the lugs helped just

enough to brake the lugs. Thank you

Excellent, Brian! Glad you got it!
