Huawei monitor with damaged backlight

Hi everyone,

I've recently got my hands on a Huawei Mateview 28" 4K monitor. It is in perfect working order, apart from a darkened strip across the left hand side of the panel. The panel still works fine and everything is visible, it's just darker in that strip.

Clearly this is a backlight failure - is there anything I can do to repair it? It appears to be IPS panel with a (WLED) backlight. I don't think the panel supports local dimming, but if it did it looks something like 1 of 28 zones is broken. Of course, I can't RMA it/etc (otherwise I wouldn't be here). I'm going to try opening it and see if it's anything trivial like a disconnected LED? Is there anything else I might try?

Cheers!

Would be great to know how you managed to open this monitor up - don't see any apparent screws etc, therefore any advice you can offer would be appreciated.

@kft definitely looks like a burned-out LED. Your monitor most likely has edgelit backlight. Sometimes you can replace individual LED's but it's a pain to solder and to find replacements. Most likely better off to replace the strip. The backlight will be in the actual display assembly, so you will have to take it apart. Watch the diffuser sheets etc. Mark them somehow so that you replace them in the original order and original orientation.

Thanks @oldturkey3! How would you go about finding the right backlight strip? I can't seem to find many details online, and considering the format I doubt it's a very common panel and hence strip.

Cheers.

What's the model number on your display? That would let us try to locate suitable replacement backlight strips.

@kft you might be surprised by the time you get to the panel. For now, there is not much you'll find. Once you have the back cover off, and see the sticker on the LCD panel, use that to find your backlight strip.

@dadibrokeit It says HSN-CBA! I can't find much about it though...

I've found these two eBay listings:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/334537130415

https://www.ebay.com/itm/334534219755

These appear to be exactly the things I need, except for slightly different monitors: ZQE-CBA is the 34" Mateview GT, and XWU-CBA is the 27" Mateview GT. They're in the same family, although I believe the GT is curved. I can't find any hits on the serial number visible on the first link, unfortunately.

Might not be that helpful in any case, as the panel technology seems to be different - VA vs IPS.
