Why is the replacement screen going black?

I replaced the screen because it had started to flicker and then didn’t work any more.at all. It happened after an iOS update but Apple said the software is not the problem, the screen needed replacing.

After replacing the screen using the iFixit part and guide (and replacing the battery at the same time) it now goes black 3-5 times a day. The iPhone is still on, I can hear clicks when pressing the screen. After a force restart the screen works for a while. That seems to indicate it’s not a faulty connection. FaceID doesn’t work since my screen replacement, I probably damaged the parts (this was my first screen replacement)

What now? Thanks for your help.

you maybe damaged the proximity sensor flex, its on the part that you swap from the old screen to the new screen

Hi Matthias,

This problem most of the time means that the battery and/or screen has either been damaged or has unmatching voltage. Or another reason is that you could have damaged the proximity sensor. If the proximity sensor has been damaged. the screen may flicker or turn off. You can try unplugging and replugging the sensor, or replacing it. There are many tutorials online to help with the replacement of the sensor. I hope this finds you well.

Hi

Many thanks for your answer.

When the screen works the proximity sensor also seems to work.

Maybe the proximity sensor flex is damaged and once in a while the connection stops working, switching off the screen.

I guess first of all I could try opening the iPhone again and checking for visible damage, un- and replugging the sensor. Is there a way to test if the phone works without having to completely reassemble it? Just to avoid having to open it another time if the problems persists and I need to replace the entire earpiece speaker and sensor assembly

Regards, Matthias
