iPhone XR Flash not Working after Backglass replacement

Hello,

After I replaced the Backglass of my iPhone XR the Flash stopped working. Everything else is fine. How can I fix this and how can I prevent it from happening the next time. (I used a Hotgun at 200°C to remove the Backglass)

If the rear camera works properly then more than like there was some damage done to the cable the flash is connected to. It would be tricky to damage just that bit and nothing else since all the buttons are on that sable cable, as well as the rear microphone. But still probably doable if the back glass was damaged. Sharp glass + cables = potential for disaster.

Actually, there's a sheet of metal between the glass and the flex cable all those parts are mounted to, so it's unlikely that glass was the issue. I would personally vote for either heat or mechanical damage to the flash unit itself in the process of removing the glass since the front of the flash is exposed, unlike the camera that has a separate housing still protecting it.

I do agree that if the heat had caused a problem on the flex cable itself, you would have likely had problems with the power and/or volume buttons or possibly the microphone as well.

My vote goes to a damaged flash part. It's a pain in the behind, but here's a guide to replacing that assembly.

@dadibrokeit Could definitely also be heat. Only reason I said glass is because that’s pretty much the only spot in that metal plate where there’s a hole into the interior of the phone (flash has to have exterior visibility to be functional). But you’re right, would not be easy for glass to get in there.

One way or the other I think a new flash and button cable is in order. Godspeed though. It’s not the most accessible part to get at. This is a repair which reminds me how much I take my microscope for granted. The clips on the bracket over the flash? Yikes. Not to mention basically needing to take the whole phone apart to get the rest of the cable out.

@flannelist, yep, agree completely, time to replace the flash assembly. I've done the complete rear case replacement on a X, so I know how much work goes into a teardown. The only bright spot on this one is, while the flash on the XR is harder to replace due to being connected to the volume buttons, overall I count the volume cable's disconnection from the charging coil to be a plus.

Just as a late-breaking update to this issue, the guide I mentioned in the first comment is no longer there. The French site SOSav has apparently discontinued their English language version of the site and now solely appears as sosav.fr in French. As such, the links that previously connected to sosav.com no longer work; since they were made in English, you can't even just subsitute .fr for .com; you have to redo the entire link. Here's the correct one for the iPhone XR flash/volume/power flex.

???

I'm afraid this doesn't come through translated, and Google Translate isn't much help; it just comes up with:

To board XR and screen

Can you elaborate on your answer?
