It really sounds like your keyboard has bitten the dust. I'll let others on here offer any alternatives they may have up their sleeves, but if that was mine I'd be planning on replacing the keyboard.
The good news is that it's doable, and the parts and instructions are readily available here on iFixit. You can always search out a lower price on sites like eBay, Amazon and AliExpress.

The bad news is that everything else in the laptop is mounted on the upper case you'll be replacing, so you're pretty much looking at a complete teardown and rebuild. Like I said, it's doable especially given the quality of the iFixit guide; all you have to do is follow along step by step and you'll be fine. And of course there is a whole community of people here who are willing and able to help out with advice and suggestions.
