Weak GPS Signal - Wifi and Cellular OK

Hi All,

My Iphone 7 plus consistently has 20% weaker GPS signal than my old iPhone 5 or new 13 Pro Max (tested with GPS Diagnostic app).

I've been fixing it and have replaced the camera (stability issues) and GPS antenna. Everything else (wifi, Cellular) works fine except GPS! Have tried SIM card workaround for similar problem I found online but it didn't help.

What am I missing!

Which “GPS antenna” did you replace exactly? The GPS antenna is the top case of the phone, people selling parts usually have very little clue as to what they are actually selling.

Hi There and thanks for the response. I replaced the small rectangular-ish antenna that attaches to the case. It sits in the top left corner as you look at the opened phone.

@kwilliam That's the 5G wifi upper antenna. It may have additional screw holes and contact clips that passes the main upper antenna from the board standoffs to the upper case, but the antenna is not this part.

Antennas rarely fail unless they literally break when dropped, you're most likely looking at a board problem.

So I should replace the motherboard? I can do this but want to be sure it'll fix the issue. I'd be frustrated to replace it and have the same issue afterwards! Any way to determine the failing component for sure?

@kwilliam it’s your phone, we have no access to diagnose it.

Also don’t replace the motherboard, it makes no economical sense, find exactly what’s wrong with it and replace just the bad component.

Mmm...I can replace a motherboard myself but I don't have micro soldering skills so can't replace an IC or anything. So it's probably cheaper for me to replace the whole board
