phone boots up but screen doesn't work, water damaged, badly dryed up

One year ago a friend gave me a water damaged huawei p10 to fix, he said that it had fallen in water and he used rice to try drying up the phone. since then, every time he was trying to turn it on, it was just getting hotter and hotter, and the result was just a black screen and a little furnace, no feedbacks. I seem to recall that the phone didn’t used to get hot while charging, but only while he was trying to turn on, i mean the boot phase (?).

today:

I cleaned up the phone with iso and trichloroethylene (DON’T USE WITHOUT PROPER VENTILATION) and i tried to resolder every chip on the board. now it works, i mean, it turns on but the screen is completely black, i can ear notifications and everything, I can also see the notification light, the vibration works, but the screen stays back :(

what to do ?

I’m not able to read the schematics ( I can’t find some that are at least easy to understand and trust ) but I’m good at soldering so if it’s a chip don’t say it’s impossible to replace :)

Oh god, I almost forgot to update this page, sorry :(.

unfortunately I wasn’t able to find the backlight fuse. I do have found some datasheets with a schematic of the motherboard attached, but I’m not able to read it.

these is the component that in my opinion could be responsible of the backlight malfunction:

VDD18_EFUSE_SYS

if someone can help I would be glad to share schematics, diagrams ecc…

Hi,

If it “works” without getting hot but just no display, try shining a torch at an angle close to the screen when the phone is on and check if you can detect an images at all on the screen.

They will be very faint if they are there so trying this in a darkened room may help.

If there are no images then it may be a screen problem or a problem on the systemboard. Without schematics it is easier to connect a known working compatible screen and check if it works OK or not. Search online for Huawei P10 LCD screen to get an idea of the cost of the screen

If there are images then there is a backlight problem. It could be in the display or on the systemboard. Again a replacement screen will help you to know. If there is no display on a known working compatible screen then there may be a problem with the backlight fuse on the systemboard.

I don’t know where it is located but with a lot of phones it is mounted near to the screen’s flex cable connector on the systemboard. You may have use an Ohmmeter to test each likely looking component near the connector to check if it is open circuit when it should test short circuit

If there are no images then it may not be just the fuse as I think that it only powers the backlights
