i tried to fix my iPod screen but the ribbon cable got disconnected from the hold switch thing. is there any way that i can connect the ribbon cable for the screen back to the hold switch so the screen can turn on?

The cable and the 'switch thing" are actually one unit. I doubt you will get it connected back to the switch, but not saying you can't. You probably will need a good stereo microscope and a very, very small soldering station. So, my suggestion would be that you take a look at the teardown to see how it connects to the logic board. The cable and the switch are available at places like this. I hope everything goes well, good luck.
