MacBook extremely slow and strange power button

Hello everybody,

I have a very esteemed macbook late 2011. The logic board had a problem with the detection of the ram memories (3 beeps), which was not repairable so the only solution is the replace of logic board. I managed to get a board of a macbook 2011 early version. I replace the board with very carefully, apparently without any problem and I took the opportunity to change the thermal mass of the processor.

When I try to turn on the computer, I notice that the first strange symptom was that for it to turn on, I had to leave my finger fixed on the power button for about 5 seconds. If I only clicked once, as it should be, I would hear the computer trying to connect but then it would go down. When he finally turn on i notice that is extremely slow, to the point of not being usable. I started in safe mode and it worked at normal speed.

Another thing I noticed, is that I can't reset the SMC. When I do the key combination + power button, the computer wont turn on.

Will these problems all have the same origin or will they be several problems? Do you suggest a solution?

Thank you all!

You'll need to run the onboard diagnostics to get a better idea on whats happening. Press the D key after startup to enter into it. Let us know what error codes you get.

@danj Thank you for your reply.

I just did the hardware test and got the following result:

4SNS/1/40000000: IB0R-9.166

What this means? There is some solution?

Thank you very much!

Your logic board has a power rail problem! Thats what IBOR is a current sensor.

You’ll need to find someone with the deeper skills to fix your logic board or you could just replace it. Sadly these boards (2011/2012) are getting hard to find used as people are hanging on to their systems as this series is the last model which is really serviceable RAM & storage!

@danj Thank you very much for your help.

Yes, I know that, and that's why I bought this logic board to replace the original one, but unfortunately it has this problem. I will try to find someone to repair. Thanks again for your help, hoping this topic will help others.

I'm confused ?? Which board did you check? You'll need to run diagnostics on the other board if thats the new one if that is failing.

The board where this diagnosis occurs was on the new replacement plate, since the old one did not turn on (3 beeps), it was not possible to perform this diagnosis.

Ouch! You'll need to get a 3rd board! This one needs fixing! Can you return it to get a replacement or your money back to get another?

da

Unfortunately it is not possible, the deal was made without that possibility. @danj , can you tell me on average how much it costs to repair a board with this problem?

I have a same A1278 macbook pro 13 with the same problem. You have to push the power button all the way for 5-6 seconds to make it turn on. Just take down those 2 resistors and make 2 direct connect jumper wires and the problem is solved. The problem is caused by those 2 faulty resistors so the ISL6259 charger IC can't measure the battery current.
