Power Cycle / Battery Problem

Hi!

I have a problem with my old iPad. This thing has a lot of sentimental value to me, and I was just able to find it in an old box after about 5 years of disuse. I was able to charge it up to 31%. Everything worked fine, I was able to install apps, make a backup, then out of nowhere the device rebooted, prompting me to restore from iTunes. I ignored that and the iPad rebooted ok. About 10 minutes later, the iPad crashed again, however, this time, after the iTunes message, the iPad wasn’t feeling so good and got caught up in a boot loop. I attempted to wipe the device on iTunes, which I did a couple hours before with no issue, however this time I was presented with a (9) connection error when restoring. Using a Windows PC nor Mac fixed it. I still believe this to be a software problem, rather than hardware, and from what I’ve seen, a dead battery could cause this. I am currently attempting the freezer technique in order to recharge the iPad to a higher voltage, however I am wondering if there is potential for that to be the cause behind my (9) connection errors.

Thank you,

Marton

What is this freezer technique you’re speaking of? As a repair technician myself I would advise against putting your device in a freezer.

It seemed confusing when I first heard it, but it makes sense to me now.

Basically, the iPad would try to boot on a flat battery and then reboot because it realized the battery was dead, causing a boot loop.

The freezer comes into play to trip the temperature sensor to prevent the device from booting, allowing a small charge to enter the iPad, allowing it to then turn on with sufficient charge to bring it to the home screen.

That's an interesting technique I'll have to test that on a donor device. Did it work?
