Bootable installer not working getting error msg file damaged

After the Mac not starting up i made a bootable installer when prompted to install el capitan error message this copy install os x el capitan can’t be verified. It may be damaged or was manipulated when it was downloaded. I made a new bootable installer on 4 different usb drives 16gb but get same error code. Attempts to restore or download os x on the faulty mac everything seems to work fine untill the end of the process. But then get the message could not install OS X el capitan. i checked the disks and diagnosed everything i could with the tools i’ve got. No problems found. Apple support first willing to send me the command for the terminal to fix this backed with explanation certain things and commands are secret and cannot be send.

You’re not crazy! Apple messed us up!

Here’s more on the issue If you've got an old macOS install image, it will probably stop working today

To fix this you’ll need to get the fixed installer or you need to fake-out the installer! We have updated installers for Sierra through to Mojave from Apple. But if you want to use El Capitan we will need the fake-out method!

So here we need to do alter the systems clock setting back dating it back to the year the OS installer certificate is valid for. So here El Capitan was released in Sept 2015 so setting the year setting to let say 2017 will meet the certificates window to work!

So now using your USB OS installer you have now. Open the control panel altering things as I’ve outlined here. Remember set the year to 2017

Now reboot your system and let the installer rip! Done!

Don’t forget to reset the year back to today afterwards.

If you can't get to the control panel here's how to get to the setting via terminal Changing system date from Terminal But be careful here! If you let your system connect to the internet the time server will reset your setting back to today before you know it! So make sure your system is not connected to either your wired or wireless network.

Hi Dan i did change date and now it seem to work i don't get the error msg. Well its running now telling 24 mins remaining. that was an hour ago lol. The status bar moved like 4 millimeters so i guess ill just let it run over night. if you interested ill let you know if it finally installed. When running recovery it also seemed to work but when done i got msg OS X el capitan could not be installed. So tomorrow i let you know. Thanx so much for the input really grateful for your Help. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

@noko - It shouldn't take that long! It sounds like the drive has an issue.

Did you replace it? If you did what was the drive make & model.

hi its not instaling and now it won't even start in failsave mode. I got to agree think the hard drive is damaged. Its a 1Tb id like to tell You more but can't start system anymore. not taking any command just status bar and taking forever and nothing happens. i give up guess i got to get a new harddisk. Thanks anyway .

@noko - Be careful! Your system is only a SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) so you need to make sure the drive you get supports the slower SATA II I/O speed. I would recommend getting a 3.5" Seagate FireCuda SSHD You'll also need a in-line sensor replacing the one that's built-in the custom drive OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor for iMac Late 2009 - Mid 2010 Hard Drive Upgrade and lastly here's the guide Installazione dell'SSD nell'iMac Intel EMC 2390 da 27"
