What can be done if the battery no longer charges?
After being in storage it no longer takes a charge. Any ideas?

See step #6 of this guide and replace the two batteries:

The two metal discs visible in step 6 of that guide are the magnets used to hold the head onto the body. Do not attempt to replace the magnets with batteries, as the head will no longer attach to the body. If you wish to replace the batteries in BB-8, consider looking on YouTube for another guide.
