820-3115-B U7000 Corroded Pins, No LED on MagSafe

I have been given a dead MacBook Pro A1278. The computer is fairly heavily water damaged and on inspection has no MagSafe LED. I believe this is linked to the fact that U7000 is missing the majority of its pins!! I’ve cleaned the board and tested some of the voltage rails. The charger rail is present but everything that should be created by the U7000 chip is missing. This IC gets hot and definitely need replacing but I don’t know what to do about this inevitable missing pads under it.

I have ordered a new logic board on eBay to get the machine working for now as I think this board may be too far gone. Is there a way to transfer the serial number from my old board to the new board? Maybe if I transfer the EFI EEPROM?

Thank you,

Oliver.

Why are you thinking you need to move the EFI chip over? The new board will have its own chip and S/N

Although this isn’t absolutely necessary, it would be nice if the S/N matched the case - just me being fussy though... maybe this can be done using software though?

All I do is take a Sharpie Pen then on the inside of the bottom cover I write the logic board S/N this is per Apple SOP!

You really don't want to mess with the EFI if you really don't need to.

FYI - Most of the time the cover marking gets rubbed off anyways ;-}
