Why my iMac not start after install SSD?

Guys, Recently i just bought 2TB SSD for my iMac Intel 27" EMC 2546 3.2 GHz (Late 2012).

After completed assemble everything and prior to reinstate the display, I did check and connect the power supply, push on button, nothing happen.

I did check power cord continuity, all okay. When I check the 4 LED diagnosis on logic board, none at all lit up.

Any idea what next step should i do to verify the problem?

Many thanks!

If you are not getting any of the onboard diagnostic LED to lite, that implies you are not getting power

  • You have a short! Did you put in the wrong SSD?
  • The AC line cord is not connected in the back or is bad
  • The AC pig tail internally is not connected

I believe i put the right SSD, bought from OWC, spec follow my iMac, model - Mercury Electra 6G.

I did check the power cord with multimeter, seem everything fine. But nit sure about AC pig tail to logic board itself, how to check?

Did you follow this iFixit guide? Sostituzione Hard Drive iMac Intel 27" EMC 2546 or one that is similar?

Did you put on the OWC in-line thermal sensor?

da

yes i do follow the guideline and put the thermal sensor

da

The power pigtail is on the back side of the power supply if you hadn't removed it it wouldn't be an issue.

Lets disconnect the systems SATA cables to the thermal sensor harness to see if the system responds without the SSD and the thermal sensor.

Yes it work!! Thanks a lot Dan.

Hey. I’ll admit I don’t work on macs.

But have you tried removing the ssd and using the old hard drive? If so,did it still work fine then? This would be the first step other than making absolutely sure you didn’t leave anything else disconnected. It’s so easy to forget one ribbon cable. Make sure you didn’t forget anything.

you can also unplug the Mac and hold the power button for 10 seconds to drain some residual power out. Leave it for 15 minutes. Come back and plug it in. See if it works.

Let me know if you’ve tried these steps already.
