1 Replaced Heatsink, Now Will Not Power Up
Sorry, gonna be a messy post because I don’t type well on devices.
Anyways, just followed the posted guide on replacing the heatsink (specifically the paste) to see if that solved some performance issues I thought might be related to overheating.
Things appear to have gone well, no ‘red flag’ moments that I’m aware of (not super experienced so I won’t say anything definitively).
However, now it won’t power on. Battery indicator works. MagSafe shows green. Will not turn on. I would have expected it to boot up and crash if I’d installed the heatsink incorrectly, or for components not to work properly if I’d ripped a cable, but none of the work took place near the power button so I’m not sure what could have happened?
Coincidence? Or is there something I need to check for damage (did a SMC reset already)? Thanks.

To clarify you cleaned and applied a fresh coat of thermal paste. You didn't replace the heat sink is that correct?
What thermal Paste did you use and did you apply it so only the chip its self got the paste not the Green carrier?

I m not an expert in mac , but i have faced situation just like you are having now . All i did is i removed all the components like ram hdd battery and the processor and i tried pressing the power button for a while after disconnecting the power source . now put everything back and turn it on , that worked most of the time . Feel like you should try this once patiently .

I recommend unplugging the battery and keyboard cable to attempt to let the MacBook power on via the charger by itself.
Sometimes the keyboard cable isn't seated in fully so the keyboard may not work. It is pretty annoying to connect I sometimes use scotch tape to help guide it in or use a spudger to push the cable in flat from behind.

Sorry, took a while to get things squared away... but I am typing this from my Macbook so... Good news everybody!
Thermal paste used was the Arctic Silver and cleansers that ifixit sells.
I did try powering it on via the connector, but that didn't work for whatever reason. There are apparently also 'jump points' on the board you can use to power the Mac on, but I didn't muck with that.
However, the issue appears to have been damage to the keyboard ribbon cable at some point during the initial repair process. On another site, for a different model Macbook Pro, I saw mention that the power button is tied to the keyboard and replacing that helped that person.
So, I went to an electronics recycling place found an untested upper assembly for $10 and got my computer working again after installing my internals into the new upper.
