MacBook A1278 going to sleep while working.

My macbook is going to sleep while I’m working on it. This seems to be a normal issue, but I have tried all the solutions and nothing seems to work.

After contacting Apple Support, they determined it was a hardware issue.

Hopefully someone here knows what hardware to replace so I can do it myself and save some costs.

Tried:

Installing new SSD with Mojave (random sleeping continues during USB installation)
SMC reset
NVRam reset
TRIM Enabler installed
Caffeine installed
Battery removed and reinstalled
Sleep sensor removed and reinstalled

Your sleep sensor needs replacement, here’s the needed part TheBookYard - MacBook Pro 13" Battery Indicator/Sleep board (09-12)

Follow this IFIXIT guide to Step 4 Sostituzione Scheda Logica MacBook Pro 13" Unibody metà 2012 Then jump down to Step 14. Now jump to Step 5 Sostituzione Batteria nel MacBook Pro 13" Unibody, versione metà 2012. Once the Battery is removed you’ll find two screws holding the Battery checker/Hall sensor assembly on the inside sidewall behind the battery.

OK, you selected the wrong system this is a MacBook not a MacBook Pro!

So lets start this again from the top, I'll fix your system selection and show you the Hall sensors location. Your system is very different than this one.

@bmostrey - I've replaced my answer with the correct info. No! The part your pointing to does not have the sensor only the sleep LED.

Carefully review the new info.

Okay great! Before I buy this part, if I disconnect the sensor (step 14) would this fix my problem?

Nope ;-}

Just like driving your car with only 3 wheels when you have a flat. Sometimes you just need to make the leap of faith.

Besides this is not an expensive part, nor a difficult part to put in.
