Why does my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 keep timing out?

My tablet keeps timing out! It doesnt give me the option to set the timer in the settings! Its been like this for months. I fixed it once but cant remember what i did! I've rebooted it, checked all the settings but I'm not sure what else to do! Answers? Thanks!
