P.S. I’ve just bought 29W USB C (genuine Apple A1540) and it says in listing it is for…… iMac :/

Is it possible it is for iMac?

It is says on it: Output 14.5V 2.0A or 5.2V 2.4A

So if it is for MacBook 12 2016 - those Voltages are totally different

da

Bart - The iMac does not use USB-C power adapters so that can't be correct!

The newer MacBook & MacBook Pro both use USB-C chargers

da

P.S. My guess I cannot use Samsung Galaxy S8 charger neither?

da

While its USB-C the output is quite low so it will not be very effective in charging your MacBook. Best to wait until you get the charger you ordered.

JUST DON’T TRY IT!

Are you really going to risk destroying your 2016 MacBook. Get off your tuchus and go to Best Buy and get the correct charger. They may even be open today, call first.

Here is the details of your MacBook USB-C power adapter: What's the difference between Apple's new 30W USB-C adapter and the old 29W one?

  • Apple 30W USB-C Power Adapter: 5V @ 3A, 9V @ 3A, 15V @ 2A, 20V @ 1.5A
  • Apple 29W USB-C Power Adapter: 5.2V @ 2.4A, 14.5V @ 2A

Looking at your image of the Dell unit you'll see the output is 5 Volts at 2.0 Amps or 20 Volts at 2.5 Amps (45 Watts)

Clearly its more powerful than what your system came with. I’ve not verified this so I’m hoping Apple complied with USB-C PD All You Need to Know About USB Power Delivery. If it has then you’re just fine!

am I remember right - 29W charger was delivered with MacBook 12" 2015 and 2016 and 2017 with 30W?

As I can't see 20V in 29W - as if 2016 model was delivered with 30W - then Dell's 5V is too low and 20V too high

Can I burn anything connecting that Dell charger - or the worst scenario - MacBook will refuse charge and NOTHING will happen?

da

and one more thing - just entered on Apple website and it says 30W compatibility is for iPhone iPads - no mention for ANY MacBook :/

And there is no possibility to buy 29W :/

da

Both 2015 and 2016 Macbooks were delivered with the same 29W charger, 5.2V @ 2.4A, 14.5V @ 2A as @danj listed, I can't tell about the 2017

da

Bart You really need a set of reading glasses!

The Apple Web site clearly shows the 30 Watt charger is for the MacBook! 30W USB-C Power Adapter

"Apple recommends pairing it with the 12-inch MacBook or the 13-inch MacBook Air with Retina display for optimal charging performance"
