How do I use this display as a second monitor for another computer?

My MacBook Pro had extensive water damage and was totaled.

I currently have the display removed from the body. Is there a way to wire it up to be used as an external display for another computer?

You got some answers from the gentlemen herebelow already but, all in all I'd warmly consider selling your screen which is quite valuable and buy a proper screen if you need one :)

Nickolas Fulton  you can but not with the existing wiring etc. You would need to find an LCD driver board that fits your panel. Take a look at this guide Universal LCD driver Technique Even so it is a different LCD panel the steps are pretty much the same as they will be for your panel. Definitely a worthwhile task to complete

@oldturkey03 - I think he still has the display mounted in the frame (full assembly). I think an eDB adapter might be all he needs but I've never tried it.

As you know Apple often does their own thing with interfaces. Apple calls the connection iDP whereas others call it eDP.

da

@danj that is correct and hence the need to find the actual panel number. Not the Apple part number etc. Without a dedicated LCD driver board for the panel there is no way to drive it with its current wiring.

@oldturkey03 - I thought the whole idea of eDP was to simplify the connection being nothing more than the same as an external DP connection with some added pins.

da

@danj but we need to know what those pins do. I am thinking more along the line of creating a complete separate monitor vs. an additional monitor for an existing system. Something that would be plug-and-play to any video source.

Sorry guy I don’t know of any Apple iDP (eDP) interface adapter for your screen which will allow you to re-use it.

I did find this one for use with an Arno computer TFP401 HDMI/DVI DECODE 40PIN TTL Not sure if it will work or not.
