Every so often i’ll open up imessage on my phone and the name I have for my contacts will disapear and i’tll just have their number. It does it every so often and it’s annoying to find out how to fix it.

Update your ios version and maybe try taking off the icloud contacts backup option see if it still happens when that is not selected
