I believe I may have shorted my phone

I took apart my phone because I had gotten a headphone tip stuck in it. I have no experience on devices but i watched a video on how to disassemble. Well when I got to the battery plug I used my tweezers to unplug it and saw a tiny spark come from it… I was sure I shorted it but I put my phone back together and sure enough it wont turn on, is there any recovery from this?

The first thing to check is the condition of the battery. If you’re lucky, you may have only shorted the gas gauge circuitry on the battery (there is a circuit board inside the black wrapping). The way to test for this is to either replace the battery or if you have access to a multimeter, probe the battery connector to see if it shows any voltage. If it shows 0V, then the battery circuit was probably damaged. If it shows something like 3 - 4.2V, then the battery is fine and you probably blew something on the logic board. That would require a micro-soldering repair.

Thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it. I'll go ahead and check the voltage of the battery and if it's dead I'll go ahead and have to replace it. If its the logic board then I already know what I'll have to do :(

Thanks,

You can try a new battery, but if that doesn’t work you phone is pretty much a paper weight now.

there is zero chance that your phone is a paperweight. You can't kill an iPhone 5s with battery voltage and tweezers at the battery connector even if you tried.

just plug it in, you’ll be fine. You probably set off the battery protection circuit, but if you plug the device in, that will wake up the battery and the phone will work if there is no other damage.
