@willett3n it will help if you can provide us with the complete model number for your washer.

Unfortunately this is usually the main control board with gets reset when you unplug it.

noah, I do not know of one but lets ask the professional first before you buy anything. @ladytech any suggestions?

I would make sure the polarity is correct at you outlet at wall, meaning, make sure the washer plug has 3 prongs that go in to a 3 prong outlet with nothing else plugged into the outlet. Then, check the door lock to make sure it’s catching. Check the start switch. I have found the water level switch to cause this problem as well. If those are good then the problem is in the control board.

Noah W-there is a tech sheet in the washer, it might be tuck in the bottom of unit behind the back panel. It will explain how to put it in a test mode. This unit might also have a power board that is failing.

So, I found another post that had some troubleshooting tips. I am trying to find it again but here is what I can remember.

My washer completes the whole cycle and I think option 1 fixed mine

  1. Try pushing the Start button in various spots. The example given was north, south, east, and west. The Start button itself could be the cause. This button is part of the User Interface board or something similar.
  2. There is a relay that gets stuck on one of the boards. Try smacking the top left area of the washer and if it comes on that relay is likely sticky.

I will I’ll try to find the post again.

I also have this problem with my Kenmore front washer Model 796.40147900

I have to unplug it and then plug it back in and it works fine, until you go to use it again. Strangely enough if the washer won’t start and I press the Power button on the matching dryer to dry some cloths, the washer powers up and plays the power startup tune . I kid you not, it’s happened quite a few times. ( try figuring how that happens)

Thanks for all the previous answers , I’m checking them out.

Sorry for late reply. My washer is cured ! Apparently there could be a relay switch which is wired to the power on button. It can get stuck ( just like the points the poker cars, motorcycles and lawn mowers. The relay mini welds closed)

I took a rubber mallet and hit the top and sides and back right at the corner. Gues the impact jarred the relay open again. So far it’s been working just fine and the matching dryer no longer plays in harmony with the washer 😉
