What did I break, and can this be repaired?

And if so, how? I *think* this is the Bluetooth since the WiFi works fine, and I couldn't get the Pro to recognize my bluetooth headset. I'm nervous as !&&* right now.

I'm not ready to spend that to replace it, since if I replace the logic board, don't you lose touchID? Does the touchID button still function as a power button if I replace the logic board, or is there a handshake mechanism?

First chill out. Now tell us the whole story, what it doing and not doing.

da

It won't recognize bluetooth devices, as far as I can tell. WiFi still works.

da

Is it more than one device that it can't find?

da

Yes, it won't discover anything.

da

It was the bluetooth, my coworker salvaged an antennae connector from another dead Macbook motherboard and soldered it on, it is working 100% again.

First go into your Bluetooth control panel in Preferences to make sure Bluetooth is on as well as what its name the system is known by.

If you have an iPhone go into Settings > Bluetooth. Now slide to the bottom of the list to ‘Other Devices’ Do you see your MacBook Pro’s name listed? If you do then you know Bluetooth is working.

If you don’t have access to an iPhone or iPad you can also see if the Bluetooth services are active within your Mac system open About This Mac > System Report. Now click on the USB section on the left column, in the right column click the twisty and walk down the other twisty’s until you see the Bluetooth Host Controller listed. If you don’t then the driver did not load as it was not seen during boot up.

Unlike older MacBook Pro’s the Bluetooth services are soldered to the logic board and yes, it would need either someone skilled in fixing it or a new logic board. I would strongly recommend going to Apple as this in my mind would be a defective chip. Or if you just bought the system you should return it and get your money back.

Yes, my other devices won't recognize this Macbook Pro. No, underneath USB in System Report, I do not see a Bluetooth Host Controller listed. I'm not sure how I could take this to Apple Store at this point since I had to replace customer's screen due to his screen (not his logic board) being liquid damaged. New screen works just fine, but I broke the bluetooth antenna in the process, it appears. How would it be a defective chip if there's physical evidence of damage?

da

OK more useful info! So you damaged the antenna did you replace it yet?

My comment was based on only having this issue alone. The liquid damage could have also effected the antenna. I would replace the complete assembly. Then lets see where you are.

Thanks for your input, Dan. My coworker was able to salvage an antennae connector from another (dead) Macbook's logic board, he soldered it on and bluetooth functions properly again.
