There are two ways to deal with this . One way is expensive the other not so much

this is the cheap way

the other is to replace the door latch with sensor attached

Hope this helps

BTW Ive replaced a few of these and they don't seem to last very long . This is why I included the video showing how to disable it

2013 has a complete enclosed door latch you cant get ahold of the white piece in this video to break it. I've tried on my 2013. My rooms stay on now past the 5 minute timer. Ford wants 500 to fix and I ain't going that when is a faulty design by them and they wont recall it due to no safety risks or injuries.

Please report this to NHTSA!! We are having the same issue with our 2011 and 2013 Edges

I typed the problem in to search bar…a you tube video appeared…the video was by “Nick” Hughes who resolved the issue by spraying CRC electronic cleaner which comes in a red can and he purchased at Walmart for less than $3.00.

He repeatedly showed what he did that resolved the issue for him…nothing was broken to fix the latch.

His title was “door ajar light….FIXED!!! Works on any car or truck…

Nothing had to be broken!

This fixed “degummed” the mechanism!

I am a woman with no repair experience but I will give this a try!

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I also saw this video and tried it; unfortunately it did not work successfully for me. Over a course of a week, I cleaned it several times with the electric cleaner after initial attempt yielded no results. It's a fundamental issue with the Ford latch/sensor component. After conducting extensive research, the main cause of this issue a cheap part selected/used by Ford. It is the latch/sensor component.

The issue of the sensor not registering is caused by the sensor switch not fully pressing down on the internal wire of the door, which then communicates to the car that the door is closed. This part can only be replaced with the exact same part from Ford, which is made identical to the original. This means that over time, the new latch/sensor will begin doing the exact same thing.

Many Ford owners have filed complaints with the NTSB trying to force a recall by Ford to force them to fix it. Thus far, that has been unsuccessful with the response being "it's not a safety hazard." In my opinion, that couldn't be further from the truth. If I can't lock my door (even manually) because the faulty sensor is telling the car that the door is open, that's a safety issue. Additionally, this causes your battery to drain because when the door sensor indicates the door is open, the dome lights remain on, even after the car is turned off.

To FORD: DO THE RIGHT THING

I genuinely hope the $10 electric cleaner works for you (I couldn't find the identical 1 seen in the video referenced above for less); sadly, I wouldn't get your hopes up. Please keep me updated to any success♡
