Can you lower kernel task caused by a faulty sensor?

I recently replaced the keyboard in my 2013 retina macbook pro. In the process i accidentally made a small tear in the trackpad cable. The track pad doesn’t work but i have an external mouse. After booting up, the fan is always on high and kernel task is 200-300% cpu usage but cpu temp is normal. From what i have gathered the sensor in the palm rest runs through the trackpad cable and I believe that the tear is causing it not to be recognized. I believe the computer assumes its over heating and is trying to protect the cpu by slowing down and cranking up the fan. Does this sound like a plausible explanation and if so is there anyway to bypass that sensor reading or lower the kernel task until i can replace the trackpad?

Thanks

(P.S. i have reset the SMC and PRAM but have seen no improvement and I believe the senor is the issue)

Bang! On the money!

The reason your CPU is running slow is it is in safe mode as the systems heat management system (SMC) is telling the CPU it’s a bit warm ;-} As it has lost connection to one of its sensors. But, we really know the palm rest sensor is off line which is what is the root issue.

Guess you’ll need to replace the cable. Here’s the IFIXIT guide: Sostituzione trackpad MacBook Pro Retina 13" fine 2013 and here is one source for the cable: Retina MacBook Pro 13" Trackpad Flex Cable - Apple P/N 593-1657 Just make sure you’ve told us the correct model here as the different series use a different configuration for the cable..

I am currently filling out a time sensitive application and need to use my computer. Is it safe to use while in this safe mode? And is there anyway to help speed up the processing a little until i can replace the cable?

Thanks

Its' safe to use, sorry to say it will be slow until you fix things.
