Why is the bottom of my touchscreen unresponsive?

After doing a screen replacement on my iPhone 6 plus the bottom centimeter of the screen no longer responds when I touch it. Either it is completely unresponsive or it ends up tapping whatever button is above it on the screen.

There are no other problems with the screen and everything else seems to work fine. I've tried factory resetting the phone, though now since the "Get Started" button is at the bottom of the screen I can't set it back up again.

Could there be a problem with the replacement screen I bought or is it the connectors?

Hard to tell what's wrong without trying, it could be either of the two. Try opening up your iphone again and after checking with a good light source and magnification the relevant connectors and surrounding area on the logic board that no parts have been dislodged by mistake, try reseating the connector again until you get a light clicking sound. If your old screen is still partially working you could try that too to rule out possible logic board damages.

@skyek depending on where you got the display assembly from, it is also possible that you have a bad replacement. Not as uncommon as one may think

Thanks for the answer, I think I'll take a look at it tonight. I've also heard that it could be dust or oil in the connectors, is it safe to swab the connectors with rubbing alcohol? Also, I got the replacement screen of DRT on amazon.

da

@skyek No harm in trying to clean connectors, better if alcohol is ≥90%.

Replacement screens are usually chinese aftermarket replicas..I don't know what's the quality of this specific seller but as @oldturkey03 pointed out unfortunately replacements are often not up to the original screen standards.

Also, what's the course of action if there is permanent damage to the connectors/logic board? And can I test out my old screen without connecting the earpiece/front facing camera ribbons?

da

Let's not despair before it's needed, but in case of damage on the board connector you'd need somebody into microsoldering to replace such parts. Sure you can test your old one without anything else attached since it's just the touch function we need to verify here.

I may have two possibilities for you:

the first is the flex cable was damaged when you replacing a new lcd, you can try to assemble it again until you get a light clicking sound.

the second is you replaced with a bad lcd. maybe you need to try another lcd, but be careful the first possibility.

Hope this answer will help you.
