Bogging or engine slows down when turned to full throttle.

I have a brand new 66cc motor kit that mounts onto a bicycle frame is known as an 80cc Skyhawk but in Canada it's 66cc.

I used a High-Performance carb but I couldn't get it to idle slowly with that carb I backed the idle screw nearly all the way out and the engine ran faster and then it blew the spark plug right out of the cylinder head.

In response to this I put the stock carburettor on and now she runs fairly well aside from the fact that I can't throttle past 1/4 throttle and it sure would be nice to be able to get the rest of the power from the engine.

Everything is brand new when it's idling she purrs. Another thing that happens is when I throttle down the engine takes a few moments to idle down which is odd.

When I am riding and try to go past 1/4 throttle the engine slows down and I may as well be peddling but at 1/4 I can get to around 30 KPH but she can go faster if I can figure out what is causing the issue with either carburettor but I am not sure what problem I am looking for and am hoping someone can help direct me.

Hi KoolBreeze,

Can you blip the throttle higher than 1/4 throttle at the carburetor's throttle lever?

da

The carb doesn't have a throttle lever it only works through the cable. Is it possible that the air intake is too high for the fuel flow?

If so maybe I just need to try and increase fuel flow or restrict air intake.

Thats ok Here's the thing this is my 2nd engine of this type they were supposed both be 66cc but this engine I git is faster has much more power and when I put the High-Performance carb on the engine it tries to fly even at it's lowest and I can't understand why this is. I have the engine running near-perfect well I think I do. It's winter and I have been going over everything. I added a better chain tensioner as well anyway, right now the stock carburettor and it still has more power than my last engine. I have no idea how I could even measure to see if they are both 66cc. I have a feeling my last engine was either a lemon or one of the 40 something CC engines. Which would mean I got ripped off when I bought the first engine.

i would put the performance carb back on just right send it on the spark plug like tighten her down real good or sometimes the choke is on the throttle and you messed up the linkage so double check all that

Why would I do that? The %#*@ thing nearly killed me and the engine. The HP carb doesn't have a choke it does have an enrichment valve though and it ran my old engine really well but with this new engine it just tries too kill us, and it doesn't answer the question as to why this carb would act so differently on this new engine and I am not sure what a linkage is.

da

ah i see it acts differently because the jets where the fuel goes in are bigger so it lets more fuel it increases the power and sometimes they might take so much fuel the engine cant keep up so it increases the rpm and then it would kill your engine i guess i didint understand the question sorry

My mopad bogs it won't go good when I pull the throttle all the way I drained most the gas out cause it had bad gas and put fresh gas in it it's acting better but still bogs and won't go full throttle

Check to make sure you don’t have a leak on the intake manifold or the manifold side of the carb’. you can check this by dribbling a little oil along the joint to see if it gets sucked in. If this is the case, then the engine will be sucking in air without the petrol vapour to ignite and so causing a ‘flat spot’.

it could be getting too much air from a leak somewhere

I have an hp carb. Put it on new motor worked great this was a few years back . Just bought a new motor tried 2 hp carburetors neither one would work, stuck a stock on it , run like a new one slow but it ran, they need to be broken in at first, then they gradually gain more power.

Remove your air filter temporarily. Does this help or worsen the symptoms you described?

On my 50cc 4 stroke I had a problem with it bogging down at full throttle. But when I'd let off the throttle a little bit I could feel it accelerate a little. Problem was that it was getting too much fuel. All I had to do was adjust the air/fuel screw.

I’m having the same problem but with my 80cc engine. shouldn’t that air/mixture screw be for the idle and not the mixture itself?

im having the same problem on my 110cc as it accelersates, i get near the top of my rpms and then it bogs out and nearly stalls. then as its recovers from the stall i get my rpms back and it starts all over. But holding at 1/4 throttle it limps along... going out of my mind on this lol.
