Why is my power adapter getting super hot?

Hey there,

I purchased this laptop from NewEgg refurbished and it had been giving me nightmares ever since I got it.

When I first got it, it was superheating to the point I can't touch it, so I took it to Apple and they found out that battery is faulty and needs replacement. I got the battery replaced yesterday ($60 bucks) and now the charging port and the charger itself is getting super hot!!!

What do you guys think is the issue?

The best thing here is to bring it back to Apple as they would repair it under the service warranty! Don't wait too long.

The MagSafe shouldn't get hot only warm. I'm suspecting there is a deeper problem with either the MagSafe adapter or the DC In-board. Make sure you bring in the MagSafe adapter with you so they can check it out as well.

I have the battery replaced through an electronics stores as Apple refused to change the battery for me :(

I was thinking about taking that laptop to Apple and ask them to perform a diagnostic test to see what is going on :(

@mcawesome - You should still go to Apple and hand them this: Vintage and obsolete products Your system is still covered!

Unless you have something physically or liquid damaged they should still fix your system. It will cost you though ;-{

They should have serviced you before as they have a battery repair program for this system too! It might have saved you some money. Mac Service and Repair
