Bootlooping/Faulty display on Samsung Galaxy S5-G901F

Hello,

I have a spare samsung galaxy S5 that I use occasionally. It has been suffering from occasional random bootloops and shutdowns, I put in a new battery and it didnt fix it . However it's much worse now, and it can't advance any further than the initial samsung logo. It just gets stuck in an endless bootlooping cycle. I have researched hundreds of forum posts online about this issue and I can't seem to find an explanation nor fix.

A few posts suggested reflashing the stock ROM. The phone was an EE UK version, so I downloaded the firmware for it but I wasn't sure on the android version so I downloaded all 3 available versions (6.0.1, 5.0.2 & 4.4.4). I reflashed using Odin 3.0.9 and 3.1.3 as I saw that the odin version was important.

Only Android 4.4.4 allowed the phone to boot past the samsung logo and enter the initial setup menu, however, it seems that the display is faulty. Here is a video illustrating this: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bKnQ9JB...

Is this an actual faulty display? One post I saw mentioned opening the phone up and checking the display connector, as it could be loose. The display was perfectly fine when it was working previously and occasionally bootlooping. I'm now stuck with whether replacing the screen would actually fix the issue or be a waste of money. Has anyone encountered this before and could offer any advice? Would it be best to sell the phone on as faulty and for parts.

Thanks!

Don't go with hardware just yet, because it may be just because the firmware on the phone may have been downgraded to an older version.

It's always best to use the latest android version available.

What's the model of your phone. Also serial number as well if you want me to point to the exact firmware that should be on your phone.

You can find this on the sticker label located at the battery compartment of the phone.

Hi ben, thanks for your reply.

The problem was occuring before I started changing the firmware, the phone was effectively soft-bricked before I read that reflashing would maybe fix it.

The phone model is SM-G901F, S/N is RF8FC04LVJN.

I downloaded three different versions from here, https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/gala...

- G901FXXS1CQD7 (6.0.1)

- G901FXXU1BOK2 (5.0.2)

- G901FXXU1ANK3 (4.4.4)
