Whats the perfect heat for solder fcp touch connector

Hi been soldering for a time now. And i can solder a fcp connector on the mainboard of a ipad mini. Only thing its not always going smoothly. Im self tought.

Sometimes the connector comes when connecting to touchscreen etc.

So im wondering what is the perfect temperature for the heatgun to solder. Or any other great tips would be welcome.

I'd say the perfect temperature is the one allowing you to get the job done perfectly without damaging the surrounding components and the Pcb :)

I'm afraid there's no such figure in Celsius degrees on a digital hot air station screen that's good for everyone..there are tenths of possible variables..room temperature, air flow speed, hot air station precision and tolerance, size of the nozzle you prefer to use, melting point of the solder you use..only to list a few..

Just my two cents.

I agree with Arbaman. However one thing you can do is ensure you are using a soldering iron where the heating element is part of the soldering tip. Cheaper stations that have a separate tip that slips on and screws in over the element. This type of iron will loose heat quickly when contacting a ground plane on the board and it will not recover temperature quickly.

A station such as the Hakko FX951 has the station hardware constantly monitoring the temperature of the tip, which IS the heating element. When the station reads high heat transfer it immediately responds by increasing the power output the keep the tip temperature consistent. You will find that in using a well regulated station, you do not need to keep the temperature set so high all the time.

It certainly gets better with time and experience. Fcps don't suffer heat shocks that much but surrounding components might do..unless you work in an environment with constantly controlled temperature and humidity it's good practice not to be in a hurry and preheat the Pcb long enough to get any humidity out of it.

Hearing a phone Cpu popping like corn ain't very nice ;)
