Why does it say Emergency calls only?
My phone does allow me calls or text message, seems not to connect to the sim card. A new sim didn't solve the problems.

Sounds like the sim reader either has dust on the pins or is faulty, if it is open enough to see the pins the sim card sits on, then clean with a cloth & some rubbing alcohol.
If it is a recessed slot blow into it with some air, might clear out what is on the pins.
