Panasonic Camcorder X920 repair

After a few minutes of recording, my camcorder displays only coloured vertical lines on the screen and viewfinder, and this is all that is recorded. Switching it off and on does not clear the problem, neither does resetting the factory defaults. How can I resolve this problem, please ?

You need to gain access to the drum heads and clean them...here is a useful tip ....do NOT use qtip on the actual heads..the fine strands of wool can catch on the drum heads and pull them off or out of alignment...just use inkjet printer paper....hold it against the drum and rotate the drum with your finger or wooden stick.Clean the rollers with a qtip by all means....I use ISO alcohol to dip the tip in...you should see dirt lift off onto the tip...keep using a clean tip until it seems clean.

Many thanks, John for responding. I don't think this camera has a drum head. It does not have a tape transport mechanism, as the video is recorded to a memory card, not to tape. I'm not sure that there is anything I can do with it. I wouldn't know which component of the electronics is at fault.

Thanks anyway,

Geof

Okay that changes my next answer...the problem seems to get worse as the camera warms up.I have a suspicion that the ribbon cable that feeds fronm the sensor unit to the logic board has become...dislodged...or has buildup of oxidation and needs reseating.most cables are held in by a plastic clip that rotates away from the board by using a toothpick or such.Cleans the contacts reseat...thus may rectify this issue.

Thanks again, John. I have managed to remove part of the plastic cover of the camera. The ribbon cable at the logic board end appears to be OK. I have not been able to remove it to check for oxidation etc., but it appears quite clean, and I have pushed it to make sure it is fully inserted. I have been unable to get to the image sensor end of the cable. I have reassembled the camera case and am now doing a trial record. After about 16 minutes the screen went black for 2 or 3 seconds then went back to normal recording again. It has now been running for 35 minutes with no further problems.

Thankyou for your reply, hopefully your problem has found the right solution.
