Does anyone know if a bad battery will prevent the S7 from turning on even while connected to a USB power source?
Galaxy S7 won't power on, no safe mode, hard reset, no lights, nothing. After charging overnight I removed the back cover and measured the battery output +/- pins as 2.9V. Nominal running voltage is 3.85V, so I'm thinking the battery is bad.

Have you ruled it could be a bad display? Also like @oldturkey03 said if theres something wrong with the battery's connection it can cause no power up.

I don't think it's the display, display was working fine but the phone would crash. We did a factory reset and it seemed fine in safe mode, but crashed again once out of safe mode. I suspect corrupted firmware.
As for the battery drain I got the battery to charge to 4.8V or so. It's just discharging fast either because the phone is stuck in some kind of boot loop, or possibly because of the damaged board side power button flex connector. I noticed that area of the board getting pretty warm when plugged in.
If it is the firmware, is there any way to load the stock firmware without putting the phone in download mode?
Ok, I think opening it up was more than the already shattered display could take. After re-seating the battery connector, I jumpered the power button and I was able to get it to boot to download mode (I think) and successfully flash the stock firmware with Odin. I say I think because the display never came on, but after flashing, the buttons, vibe and speakers work.

@metatronic_mods with that voltage you definitely want to change your battery. Some do, most do not turn on. If your battery has an internal short it will not.
