- Have you tried running this iBook without the battery ?
A defctive battery cell could possibly cause DC overload.
- Possibility of a defective fan inside the iBook.
- If you open it, also consider changing the PRAM battery to solve the date and time isue.
- Have you had a chance to try an other power adapter ? If you try an other one, make sure it has the same power (or higher) as the original.
- Most computers are equipped with an inside cooling fan to prevent overheating (yours definitely has one); is your fan running after a few minutes ? If not, perhaps it is jammed or it has a heat sensor issue. This can also shut down your computer after a few minutes.
- As for the PRAM battery, sorry for misleading you earlier, I just read in an other article that iBooks G3 and G4 don't have PRAM battery, so if your battery is dead, you will loose parameters like date and time.
