Can I just replace the screen and use the old digitizer on the new one

I bought a screen replacement for my lg stylo 2 but it does not have a digitizer attatched. Is it possible to just replace the outter screen alone without using a heat gun to seperate everything or can i use the old digitizer to put on the new screen? I was told i can fix it myself but with it not having a digitizer i have hit a snag.
