Can I replace the 3.5mm jack with a lightning jack?

I've got a pair of old Klipsch A5i that died on my recently and I've concluded that the 3.5mm jack is to blame. Now, I'm using an iPhone 7+ and I was thinking, since I'm going to replace the jack, would it be possible to replace it with a lightning connector instead, so I dont have to fumble with any extra adaptors in the future. Any advice will be great.

I think the best thing to do would be just get another lightning to 3.5mm adapter, and tape the headphone cord and adapter together so they won’t disconnect.

I'm not gonna disagree, but it would be quite the weekend project if i could just replace it with a lightning connector. But from a quick search, the lightning has 7 connections while my earpiece only has 4, so that's the roadblock.

The problem is that the lighting adapter has a chip inside of it that changes the pin outs, the lightning is usb while the 3.5 is just audio.

If you want, you could splice the cables together.
