Some keys are not working is it due to the dented keyboard connector?

MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012:

Hi, so I already went through resetting my SMC, NVRAM, and all the troubleshooting procedures and nothing worked. I have never spilt any liquid or food on my Mac however, some of my keys are not responsive. More specifically the keys F1, F11, F12, Q, A, Z, 1, delete. When I first noticed these keys not responsive they used to work on and off and now they are completely dead. The other day I opened up my Mac and noticed a piece of the battery holder chipped off and dented the ribbon cable keyboard connector. I was wondering if this is why some of the keys are not working.

Two days ago I went to the Genius Bar for help and asked about the keyboard connector being scratched and I was told that that wasn't the issue and I would need to replace my entire keyboard which is very expensive.

Hopefully someone can see this and give me some answers. That would be greatly appreciated.

Muntaka your image looks like you tore/damaged the actual ribbon cable. If so, you will have to replace your keyboard (upper case).

It's an A1278, so this guide works: Sostituzione Tastiera MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Metà 2010

@oldturkey03 So, I can't just only replace the ribbon cable?

Muntaka sorry but no. You will have to either replace the keyboard or the upper case. Neither one of those tasks is easy or cheap.

I agree with oldturkey03, looks like the ribbon cable has been damaged. The easiest replacement would be to replace the whole upper case, which isn't too expensive if you buy one used and do it yourself. The keyboard is also replaceable, but a lot more difficult, as you must first take everything out of the computer, and then the 50 or so screws holding the keyboard in. Doesn't look like there is an ifixit guide for that, but instructions are available elsewhere online.
