There are some things you can do. But keep in mind that if you open the plastic case, you will void any warranty that you currently have on the drive.

The first thing I would do would be to create a Linux Live DVD, and boot the computer with it. I would then try to read the drive from within Linux Live. Sometimes Linux can do a better job of reading a drive than Windows can. Of course, you will need to have a drive to copy your files to. After you finish, shut the computer off, remove the DVD, and turn the computer on, to get back into Windows.

To create a Linux Live DVD, go to any of the Linux websites and download one of the current .ISO files. Put a blank DVD into the drive, right click on the .ISO file that you downloaded, and tell it you want to create a DVD from it. The process is pretty simple and straightforward. You could go to https://linuxmint.com/download.php and choose any of the eight files. If you aren't sure which one to choose, select the 32-bit XFCE file.

If you can't get to your files via Linux Live, then you could try to take the case apart to get to the actual hard drive. Once you have removed the actual drive from the plastic case, try installing it in the computer as an internal hard drive. You may be able to read it directly in Windows when you have done this. If not, then reboot into Linux Live again and try to read the drive.

Ok, I had open 5Tb 2.5”

Aaaand, it’s possible, but after reassemble it will not be ‘like a new’.

Upside aluminum cover just glued to the plastic black frame and can be easily removed with a knife (and glued back later).

You will see the drive in a plastic cage inside the aluminum frame. It’s impossible to remove the drive without destroying the cage. But the cage’s parts will bee still usable, even broken to a few parts.

Sorry, I didn’t take photos. Inside areally no free space. And Seagate HDD has a not standard size and can’t be put in, for example, a notebook, but can be connected to SATA. After all the drive looks almost like new — I had connected the aluminum cover back by two-side tape.

You cannot without severely destroying it. It is pretty much completely sealed.

If you want to open it, do it very carefully without damaging the hard drive in the process. The case will be destroyed in this process.

If your hard drive is beeping (which im not sure they can) it could be dead. What occurred before this? Did it have a hard fall?

Hope this helps! If it did please hit the accept answer button!

open from the base only, i have both size enclosures the large with the useless seagate 5TB 3.5 inch disk is the one i’m am talking about here .

you will damage the enclosure trying to open so i tried to do as little as possible to touch the upper part of the drive it will at least look as good as before.

i will not say how to do it but my understanding is that the bottom metal plate can be removed it’s glued strong to a plastic inner case which does the locking some people will know how to do the separation from here it has around 17 locking clips to release from here access to the drive will be no problem,

in my case i used the wrong power adapter and discovered the drive too the hit and the usb-c PCB is fine so a got a high speed 4TB

drive and it’s a great external drive now.

i can’t find how to upload at least 1 pic

Some pictures of the 3,5 inch version of the LaCie Porsche USB-C.

Once you managed to open the bottom plate (destroying some locking clips), the drive comes out if you grab it on the side away from the connectors.

Then you have to open 2 screws on the shielding to separate it from the connectors.

I upgraded mine with a bigger HDD - reassembling was no problem and it works just fine.
