Broken back glass panel

So i broke my rear glass panel on my 4 day old s8+. Turns out these phones are so slick that they slip right out of your pocket. Mine hit a tiled floor on the edge, and the lower right corner of my screen cracked. all this while my case is coming in the mail...

Anyway, because its only a small section which is going to be covered by a case eventually anyway, i was looking to repair it with some kind of resin, like the windscreen glass repairers use for chips. i think this should stop further crack propagation and hopefully also reseal the phone keeping it water proof.

Or i will replace the back glass completely either myself, or through my insurance. I want to see the cost difference and difficulty first.

There are no guides yet so could someone look at this? there will be alot of cracked front and back screens because this phone is so slippery.

Will cost aud$100 excess to get it fixed. Might just do that.

da

Where can we get it fixed for $100 because from what I'm finding out from Gadget Grave it's going to be several hundred dollars just for the glass

da

My smartphone insurance excess is 100. So if u did it out of insurance it would probably be more.

da

My s8+ broken just falling from bed to floor. Now Samsung technician said $350 to fix it. Or they warranty will be void if repaired from outside market

da

sux man. I'm glad i got insurance with my phone plan. only 100 bucks (AUD) excess. phones off getting assessed now. they said itll probs get replaced with a new unit.

Na Jo (d3vour3r), Presently not a lot out there on the repair of the S8+ or part availability, posted some links below of what I found, may answer some of your questions. Also recommend you keep trying a search on the Net. as the phone ages more info./parts will become available. Just a thought, when you mentioned auto window repair resin, I wonder if you could perhaps pop into a auto windshield repair business and have them apply the resin on the screen to stop cracking as a temporary fix. Definitely use warranty/insurance if you can. Good luck. I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

u can use a liquid screen protector. I have found them the only solution for Samsung devices. liquid Nano is what I have on my device. It comes with a $100 screen replacement warranty. I have not had to use it though. it's on amazon for 29.99. good luck

da

If you trust yourself you can repair it for $20. Just dont know if id still be water resistant/ proof.

With very little Technical experience its possible to replace the back panel of a Galaxy. Most importantly, you have to be mindful of your NFC pad and antennas on the mid frame. Knowing how to properly use a heat gun also helps but the part is less then $50 for an OEM back. That comes with precut adhesive. Let me know if you'd like a link and some pointers. Best of Luck!

so, i shattered the back really badly and i called Samsung and they charged me $70 to replace the back with free shipping. i was so surprised it was that affordable that i made sure to re-explain to the representative that the whole back would need to be replaced. she said it was really $70, im stoked!

Where did they charge you $250?

My samsung galaxy S9+ dropped on sliding door frame and spiderweb cracks on lower right corner but not crumbled yet. Is there ANY kind of glass adhesive-like repair I can apply to it verses relating backing completely.

Just saying it should be easy to replace, I'd assume it's almost an identical process to the s6 and s7, however, be careful, if it's only 4 days old you should definitely still have a warranty. Best buy even covers the first 30 days if you got it there. I haven't seen any replacement parts for the s8 yet, and be careful trying to seal it. You may not still have waterproofing. Try claiming the warranty.

We too broke the backside of 8 + and we cannot find the glass for it and if we do it is several hundred dollars we've tried to do the insurance thing but it's $250 for the deductible so I don't know if there's a place where we can buy the glass or what anybody know

da

There is no warranty on something that the user broke. A warranty only covers if the phone malfunctions or has a defect.

da

That depends on the terms of the contract you have with your provider @pccheese if you have accident insurance in the warranty it does cover just such things My boss tends to be rough on phones and he gets broken screen coverage with his contracts . He needs it! Temper temper

da

@jimfixer, true, but most people don't get insurance, and insurance isn't a warranty.

da

Best Buy does not cover a cracked screen !!!

I asked them today.

My 13 day old S8 Plus hit the floor while I was having lunch today.

Broken screen. I'm !#^&@@.

$150Deductible on my Verizon Insurance.

Might wait till the cracks get worse before getting it repaired as Assurion will just send a replacement refurbished phone.

Sucks...

We need to start something with the galaxy s8 this is the second phone I got and the screen on it is broken like my last one after paying 200 dollars for this phone. I just got the phone yesterday and broke it yesterday dropped it and cracked. I am so mad and if this is a common problem we need to speak up and tell someone so someone can help us

I feel your pain. Many of us have experienced the shock and horror of paying much money because Samsung's Galaxy S8/S8+ is much too fragile when dropped compared to previous models (e.g. S3 and S5). My best advice is to protect it with a tough case and screen protector BEFORE you leave the store. Dropping it even 2-3 feet will crack the screen. And to think I was in love with this phone until it slapped me with a $225 deductible.

da

Whats a good place to repair the back of the Samsung galaxy s8 plus and price?

da

It's worth it's weight in Gold just buying a rubberised case.

da

Hummm, I'm thinking the screen was cracked when you received it in the mail. Try telling them that next time so they replace it

Is gorrila glass supposed to break....I thought is was supposed to be strong....samsung should recall the s8 and put plastic backs on them ...they are too fragile

da

Mine has the same problem as yours. I been dealing with the broken screen for like a year and then the voice volume became an issue out of nowhere, I normally always plug it into my aux cord in my van so I didnt notice the difference in earpiece volume for awhile.... but definitely sucks. $250 for screen glass is just crazy and I have full insurance. Screw Samsung Electronics. Love them and all but wtf man.

I thought Gorilla Glass was supposed to be the tough stuff? IE: NOT BREAK?! WTH…the entire back of my s8+ is cracked. The front is completely fine after a drop of 4 ft onto concrete but I had a case and screen protector on it. Someone needs to sue samsung for this.

Note the level of difficulty in the ifix it teardown. As mentioned I'd recommend playing cards over any metal or hard plastic tools, makes it too easy to damage something behind the cover. It's tempered glass so it's some what flexible but extremely brital, which is why it breaks easily when dropped. Should be aware of the location of the NFC pad, antennas and, Flex cable. Lastly if you don't remove the old adhesive and or broken glass, you will crack the replacement, 99% alcohol works best for removing residue. Best of luck

I feel like I'm screwed. Both front and back glass is cracked badly not happy with this phone. Dropped my S4 dozens of times with only one little crack. No insurancenot happy, not happy to spend so much money on this phone. Think twice before buying it and don't leave the store without a protective cover.
