How long is the JBL xtreme initial charging?

I recently bought a red JBL Xtreme at Best Buy Tampa, unfortunately its the last one.

when i initially charge it, it only goes up to the 4 led light and it just keeps blinking.

how long is the initial charge, because it says in the manual 3.5 hours. mine has been charging for 5 hours and it still just blinking up to the 4 led lights.

please help. did i got a lemon? or is this just normal for battery initial charge?

Went to Best buy Tampa today. 4/30/17 they replaced my Red Xtreme.

cross fingers hope this one wont have anymore charging problems.

draining the battery as of now totally, before initial charging.

Dear Johan I’m facing the same problem with my new jbl extreme , the 5th lamp is still blinking although I’ve been charging it for more than five hours , seeking your support to know whether it stopped blinking in the new one they gave to you or it’s normal that way ?

If the speaker never finishes charging, ie: the 5th batter indicator led never stops flashing then your battery is bad and will get worse overtime. Happened to me, jbl refused to repair it for me so i had to do it myself using a guide on this site.

I finally got it figured out! Everyone facing the problem when 5th led is blinking, and then it goes back to the 4th led blinking, no worries, your xtreme is fine, it's just the latest update that has messed up the lights themselves. I have tested with two xtremes, one with the new update( the one that enables choosing play button as Google assistant/ Siri) and another with the outdated software. The updated version had the above mention charging problem, while the outdated was not. The minute I updated the other xtreme, it started exibiting exactly the same charging problem, making the update the only culprit here. Both speaker have no problems with playing time - at least 14 hours or even more of continuous play. So the new led meanings : 5th led blinking - speaker still trickle charging; 4th led blinking afterwards - speaker is fully charged.

@hanns76,Johann, Maybe for initial charge let it charge 8 hours. Try the JBL to see if it work's, if it works run the battery down till it is low(not dead, just low) and repeat charging to see if charge times get better, do this a few times and it continues not charging to full capacity the circuit inside speaker or charger may be defective and should be returned for refund/replacement while you can through the store. for now I've been charging it in sequence, I've initially charged it for 4 hours when i bought it yesterday, then last night it was charging for 6 hours, but still no luck.

I will try to bring the battery to low, then i will do the charging again.

the only unusual thing I've noticed is, its charging only up to 4 led lights but when i disconnect the charger, its shows full charge, is this normal?

Johann, It is entirely possible that there could be a full charge and just a fault with the charge LED's light's, I do not own this speaker so I can not say this is normal, but I would not think it should be normal or they would only have one LED to show when charged instead of progression LED's.

Best buy tampa replaced it, it was a defective unit, so far the JBL extreme replacement is working fine.

we have two jbl extreme speakers.one is a few years old and it has stopped holding its charge.The other one is about 6 months old and its charge time is getting shorter.Is there anything we can do?

mickey beltran , Really should have posted this as a question, rather then as an answer. It sounds like your batteries are giving up and time to change them. most certain battery replacement. it has been an on going battery issue with xtreme when it gets old.

All dry cell rechargeable batteries will weaken after repeated charging and will stop holding a charge after lots of use or letting the battery be repeatedly stored without recharging it first. You must keep them charged up and don't let them go completely dead for to long or they will not charge. To get the most and longest life out of your batteries, keep them charged up when not in use for extended periods of time. They all will have to be replaced eventually.

i think JBL xtreme cons is the battery life.

so far replacement xtreme that best buy tampa gave me is working fine, but i have to be prepared to buy the replacement battery.

by the way, out of the topic, i auditioned xtreme side by side with Bose revolve +, I almost exchange the JBL over to Bose but the verdict is; "xtreme is still the xtreme" in terms of sound. its just JBL xtreme gave me that loud and clear output compared to bose, plus the JBL's stereo dynamic effects.

though BOSE did sounded 360 deg. means anywhere you stand, you get the same audio output but the sound is "mono", anyways what do we expect from a BOSE full range single driver right?

anyways back to JBL, i hope xtreme will always have a replacement battery available anytime just in case, the issue of battery life occurs.

I just own jbl xtreme today for the first time. I bought itfrom jbl shop for the first time. I would like all jbl xtreme users give me some ideas for the first charge. The seller told me that for the first charge i need to plug in for 6 hours. Some said that it should be 6 hours. So how do you think?

Just leave it charging until it's full and then unplug it. There's no need to leave it charging for 6 or 12 hours like with old ni-cd/ni-mh batteries.

I have been using my JBL Xtreme for a few weeks ...I never fully charged it ever only going to the blinking 5th I charged it for ages today and the LEDs turned off and I unplugged it ...is this the indicator it is full?

Even a new speaker could of had a new battery that has been sitting on the shelf to long, you just might have to replace your battery with a newly manufactured one

The JBL Xtreme battery led lights should turn off when it is fully charged.

I had the same problem, stuck at 4th or 5th led light blinking past 4 hours and even overnight charging. I got a replacement from JBL and the new unit charges in less than 4 hours and led lights turn off when charge is full.

i own a JBL Xtreme since september of 2018…it was ok but now it doesnt charge 100%,it just happened yesterday and i dont know if i should return it or let it for more hours,it is already been charging for about 17 hours but it s still on the fourth light

If it never fully charges then the battery is defective, you should take it to jbl to have it replaced or change the batteries yourself.
