Why are these similar items so different in price?

Hello,

I'm looking to replace the HDD on my MBP to an SSD, and looking at two models from this side and another, I see vastly different prices. I'm wondering what the reason for the difference in price could be.

A 500 GB SSD here at iFixit is listed at $90: [prodotto collegato mancante o disabilitato: IF107-098]

And at a different website, an SSD with the same space is $160: http://www.crucial.com/usa/en/macbook-pr...

What could be the reason for this?

- Jordan

May I ask why you want to replace the drive? Are you having problems (there are known issues).

@jordanvarela - You have very different drives here!

The IFIXIT drive is a Seagate 2.5" SSHD (hybrid) drive which is a traditional spinning HD with a SSD as a cache (32 GB).

The Crucial drive is a SSD which is a solid state drive (no moving parts).

Now the question here is are you looking for something better than a traditional HD but less costly? If you are then the SSHD would be a good direction. While not as fast as a full SSD drive it does boot up quite fast and often small apps will also be cached.

A SSD is more expensive per GB. in comparison with a HD or SSHD. It does handle bouncing better and offers much faster throughput but a heavy cost.
