iPhone 5c vibrator doesn't work after 2x replacements

Hi everyone.

I bought a new vibrator for my iPhone 5c, since the original one wasn't working properly. To replace it, I removed the display and the battery, like in the guide we find here. The new piece didn't work. So I put the original back... and for my surprise, it didn't work as well. I bought a new vibrator and followed the same steps to replace it. Still, no life. Someone can understand what happened and what should I do? Thank you!

First, double check that vibrate isn't disabled in the Settings menu (Settings->Sounds). At least the "Vibrate on Silent" option should be checked.

If one (or both) are checked, then I would clean the two copper contacts on the vibrator motor and on the board with 99% isopropyl alcohol, then reassemble.

Hopefully, this helps.

Hi Tim! Thank you for your answer.

I did check if the vibrate was disabled, it is enabled. I opened the phone again and did cleaned the metal contacts. Still, didn't work after turning the iPhone on. I'm starting to worry that something happened with the logic board, I don't know...

When you place the phone on silent, does it do nothing when a phone call comes in, or does it ring?

My thought is that maybe the silent switch is stuck in Ring mode, and never actually switches to silent/vibrate.

If it never switches to vibrate/silent, then you will need to replace this: iPhone 5s Audio Control and Power Button Cable

We tried in silent mode, the phone doesn't ring. Ring mode, and the phone rings properly. The physical switcher still works. (And the vibrator was working -- not so good -- before I replace it)

The buttons work properly. Home button, volume up and down, silent switch.

This is certainly more difficult. If it was me, I would get the schematics, then with the screen removed (but still connected to the logic board), power on the phone and put a multimeter at the vibrator connector to make sure I'm getting power at the connector.

If you are getting power, I would say you got a bad vibrator, and to get a new one. If you bought the part from ifixit, their stuff comes with a lifetime warranty, so returning would be simple.

If you are not getting power, then it is a much deeper problem, and it could take substantial time to track down the broken board component and solder in a new one.
