Audio static and cuts in and out!

MacBook Pro 2012 13" non-retina. OS sierra (newest version)

When studio monitors are hooked up via USB the audio go's staticky and cuts in and out. Then it will be ok for a minute then same thing over again. I tested the speakers on another computer and they work fine. It's only with my MacBook Pro I also tried a different USB port and same problem.

Do you have anything else hooked up via USB? external HD etc...

You may need to use an external power source for your DAC unit.

Update (02/12/2017)

What happens when you disconnect the other connections? Does the problem go away? If it does it maybe the unit is pulling too much power in addition to your DAC unit.

Some devices have them built-in, others you need to use an external unit like this: Fiio - OLYMPUS 2-E10K which is what we use in our studio setup and video/sound editing stations.

So your HD is pulling the total available power of the USB 3 port. You'll need to use an external power source for the HD. Either the drive will have a means to hookup an AC transformer or you'll need to get a powered USB hub to then plug the drive into. Here the hub has its own AC transformer.

For reference: Powering peripherals through USB

Often I find when you are so close to the limit you can encounter problems with power dropouts.

The studio monitors have a built in power supply they show using 0 Mamp at USB port
