Water damaged - Apple logo disappears when you release power button.

Board has been through ultrasonic cleaning.

Phone will show apple logo as long as you hold the power button. As soon as you let go the apple logo vanishes but the backlight remains on.

I can't get it into recovery mode or DFU.

Probably a long shot, but does anyone have any ideas?

The water has obviously damaged something...

Kudos for putting it through the ultrasonic bath (as opposed to rice) but most water damaged phones require more than that. It needs to be fully troubleshooted (is that a word?).

Couple of questions and comments:

  • Did you remove the shields before the bath?
  • Do you remember if or where there was corrosion on the board?
  • Have you done any probing on the logic board?

Normally, you have to check all of the power rails on the board and visually inspect to see if there are any obvious faulty components. If you have access to the schematics and some basic electronics troubleshooting skills, you should be able to do some of it.

Otherwise, I suggest you find a micro-soldering repair shop.

Shields were off. There was a slight bit of corrosion at the bottom of the board, on the front and back. I probed all the caps that didn't look shiny but didn't find any shorts.

I guess it's time to probe some more caps. I was just hoping it was a symptom someone has seen before.

I can also add that there is 0 current being pulled from the battery terminal and the USB current is jumping around wildly from 0.09A to 0.18A.

There's not much point in just randomly probing capacitors. Check the voltage rails to see if any of them are being shorted...then check the caps on that line.

If it isn't pulling much current on the charger, then there may be a problem with the charging circuit. Check Tristar and Tigris.
