Yes you can.
The only thing is that you will have to migrate your original Home Button to retain Touch ID so you will have a black button on a white screen.

Don’t do it on the iPhone 5. I did that and it put my phone into a reboot loop. When I put the black screen(original) back on it worked normally again.

I personally did this, put a black screen on my white iPhone, but you have to put the old Touch ID home button on the new screen. It means I have a black screen with a white home button (that was on purpose, to make it unique).
In your case you will have a white screen with black home button.

The color of LCD screen assemble don't affect the display function. To keep the touch ID function, you should keep the original Home Button.

I did this looks awesome everyone asks me what is the name of my model I laugh and say that I had to replace the screen and that’s the only way to get it lol but love it it’s unique

I have a white iPhone5 and wanted to replace my broken screen. A black LCD was sent to me in error but I still installed it. Result: the black LCD's home button did not work on the white iPhone! I did not take a chance to swap home buttons...
