Unidentified (Conductive?) adhesive - chassis replacement

Hey guys,

I'm just about to do a full chassis replacement on an iPhone 5s. I already finished fully disassembling the old one, started assembling some easy parts and am now about to place the adhesives for reassembling the data cables like button and the lightning-/audio-jack/speaker cable on the bottom. Upon doing so I stumbled across some areas which partly have golden contact surfaces which previously where conducted by some special twinkling golden glue/adhesive to also somehow special treated/roughened areas on the chassis.

I suppose this adhesive is conducting and is grounding the cables to the chassis. I think that just using ordinary adhesive tape could lead to malfunction of the cables.

I couldn't find any information on ifixit nor google covering my actual issue. Neither could I really find any adhesive/glue that exactly looks like this one (only something like this one). I'll add some pictures below.

I really could use your guys help here as I'm somehow in despair now. Anyone did this before?

Thanks in advance.

As long as most of them are grounded properly, there should't be a problem. Some minor tolerance is included in design.

Actually you can get new dock cables and full adhesive sets in China and the assemble quality is as good as original if you know how to put them together.

Hey Tom,

Thank you really much for your fast and helping answer.

Could you serve with a link for such a set, maybe on aliexpress? Or would this violate the ToS of the forum?

Instead I'd also be really thankful for just an exact name of it!

Don't go too cheap on the charging port FYI, there are some that have no adhesive on it at all and I think are taken from other phones.

I can get them around $3.80 USD average per charger port. If you can get one like a dollar more from some reputable seller it should be good enough just make sure to look at the product images for the new adhesive with the sticker tabs that cover them.

Usually there is protection plastic peel stickers on the microphone, charging ribbon flex and under the charging assembly (I think they consist of a mix of blue, and red colored peel thingies).

I can say at least the iFixit ones should be just as good as original charger ports with brand new adhesives on them.

Hey Ben thank you for your input, too.

I've done some search and found some that obviously would fit my need with all the adhesives on them and which look pretty genuine.

Power/audio flex:

Price is not the cheapest as I'd get the same parts from china für about 5,35 € which is less than the half of it. But I really don't want to wait too much longer. And via ebay I'd receive these parts around the middle of next week (China: mid of january). And I still think 11,54 € is still more than a fair price.

What do you think about that? Any complaints?

Good choice of parts. I'm not sure whether its possible to buy the volume button cables with the metal plates pre-installed on them but either way should be no problems doing if you can get the volume buttons to stick well to the metal bracket.

Thank you really much for this hint, Ben!! I didn't mind trying to remove the brackets till now. I just realized that the bracket on the mute button seems to be soldered to it or at least is connected pretty solid to it. So I was not able to extract the bracket from the switch without damaging it.

In this video a guy shows how to do so. But while allegedly doing the exact same thing as he did on the video, the plastic of the switch just crumbled apart. Trying to carefully lift the clips that fix the plastic part on its side to the bracket also just broke them. So I'll just take a cable that includes the brackets.
