G-Mail and Samsung Keyboard

I use G-Mail for work & Home. Recently, when composing e-mails, G-mail does not follow the settings of my Samsung keyboard. Example: After typing a sentence, 2 hits of the space bar would normally insert a period and capitalize the next letter. Does not do this now. Am I missing a setting somewhere? I'm sure it's a simple fix but I cannot find it. Thank you!
